	THE PALME CONPA MONASTERY RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

   The Palme Gonpa Monastery in Tibet is a traditional Tibetan-style structure, and His Eminence Lho Kunsang Rinpoche has taken responsibility for reconstructing the Monastery after the ravages of the Cultural Revolution. The Thousand-Buddha shrine is in the Main Hall, while set off from the main hall will be several connecting rooms, including a study room for lamas, a reception room, and a dormitory which will be able to accommodate 60 monks. The Main Hall will feature a 16-foot tall Maitreya Bodhisattva statue. On the sides of the Hall, there will be three 11-foot tall Buddha statues, with four or five medium-sized Buddha statues in front of each large Buddha statue, as well as 1,200 8-inch high miniatue Buddha statues behind them.

  Through the generous efforts of many patrons, most of the Buddha statues have been sponsored. It is hoped that the remaining Buddha statues and other monastery reconstruction costs will be met by the contributions and sponsorships of those kind and charitable people who have an affinity for Tibetan Buddhism.

  The names of patrons will be engraved on the pedestals of the Buddha statues to show appreciation. Additionally, each monastery will erect a commemorative plaque for those contributing $5,000 or more.

  This is a significant project. For example, the large Buddha statue will cost approximately $10,000(US). The medium Buddha statues cost $5,000(US) each, and the small Buddha statues cost $100 each. Erection of a stupa is approximately $30,000, while construction of the Thousand-Buddha main shrine room is about $250,000.

  Of course, donations in any amount are welcomed. In the future, the monks will pray for the good karma of the donors arising from their meritorious deeds
