The Actual Celebration of The Sacred Dance of Guru Padmasambhava,
As Per Palpung Tradition, On the 10th Day of the 10th Lunar Month,
Tibetan Year 2133, Thursday, November 30th, 2006.

In this present world, Buddha-Dharma is being highly praised by everyone. From the traditional Buddhist treasury of the Land of Snows, Terton Guru Cheowang, with pure vision traveled to the Copper-Colored Mountain. With Guru Padmasambhava and his entire subjects, the Tse Chu practice was performed.

Guru Padmasambhava gave many valuable teachings, sacred transmissions, empowerments and prophesied that the sacred dance will benefit many sentient beings. This sacred dance flourished in U-Tsang province. The tradition of the famous monatery of Neou-Dhong-Tse in U-Tsang was adopted in Dokham province by the 8th Situ Penchen Choekyi Jungney and flourished widely there. Particularly at Palpung Thupten Choekhor Ling this great tradition has been well preserved and the feast is celebrated on the 10th day of the 6th Tibetan month in Tibet to this day. Here in exile, it will be celebrated at Palpung Sherabling Institute on the the 10th day of the 10th Tibetan month due to geographical and climate conditions. This day is considered very auspicious in Tibetan Buddhism: When Guru Padmasambhava himself was meditating Shri Heruka in retreat at the cave of Yangla Sho in Nepal he attained the supreme accomplishment during the 10th month of the Gyudlug calendar.

Guru Padmasambhava made the promise that he will live and attend among his disciples on tenth day until the end of this world.
There will be ten days of Tse Chu prayer before the actual dance begins. We, the Sangha of Palpung Sherabling Institute cordially invite you to attend the sacred dance ceremony.

The schedule of Sacred Dance of Guru Padmasambhava on 30th November is attached.

The Origin of Sacred Dance

According to the Old Tantric Tradition (Nyingma), it is said that once the Great Heruka performed such dance while subjugating Rudra. Later, Guru Padmasambhava is said to have performed the same dance in order to destroy demons in Tibet before the construction of Smaye Monastery.
According to the New Tantric Tradition (Sarma), the Lord Buddha, emanated messengers and Vajra Pani have various means to subdue evil in accordance with the various levels of Tantra (father, mother and union tantra, etc.).
The actions and unconventional conduct used by Mahasiddhas in order protect the Dharma is explained in detail in tantras such as Hevajra and Kalachakra.

The Merits of Sacred Dance

Those who see and hear the sacred dance will develop inclination toward Buddha Dharma. They will not be born in the lower realms. In this life, obstacles shall be removed. Quarrels and wars shall be pacified. All sentient beings shall be freed from diseases. Everything will be fortunate. This shall subjugate all evil. It will be easier to accomplish one's deity, and the desires of these deities shall be fulfilled. The place where these sacred dance are performed shall become peaceful and tranquil like heaven. Yidams and dekinis will assemble and provide boons. People shall face no natural calamities. In the end all will attain unsurpassable enlightenment.
